Studio etiquette

The pace is slower on purpose. A few things keep class calm and considerate for everyone in the room.

Before your first class

Complete the health screening (PARQ) in the app before you book. It is how your instructor knows what to look out for.

Tell your instructor about any injury, pregnancy, surgery or condition before class starts, even if you have mentioned it before. It changes how they spot you.

Arriving

First time at CLAY: arrive 10 minutes early so we can walk you through the equipment. After that, 5 minutes is enough to change and settle in.

  • Check-in closes 15 minutes after class starts, and after that the class is marked a no-show.
  • If you arrive after class has started, your instructor decides whether you can join safely. Reformer classes move as a group, so joining mid-flow is not always possible.
  • Running late or can't come? Cancel, reschedule or offer your spot in the app while you still can, so it can go to someone on the waitlist.

What to bring

Grip socks are required on the equipment. Bring your own or pick up a pair at the front desk. Comfortable, fitted clothing works best on the reformer; loose jewellery tends to get in the way.

In the room

Phones on silent and out of sight during class. Photos or video of other members need their permission first. Keep conversation low between classes, as another class may already be running.

Wipe down your equipment after class, and put mats and props back where they came from.

During class

Follow your instructor's cues rather than a move you have seen elsewhere; the sequence and pace are chosen for the room. If something hurts or feels wrong, say so. That is what your instructor is there for.

Guests and children

Classes are for members with a booking. We cannot accommodate walk-in guests, or children sitting in on a class, except at events planned for it.
